Brazilian ethanol policy was strongly developed from 2003 to 2010. However, after the announcement of the pre-salt oil reserves, in 2007, these policies have been weakened. In a nutshell, three phases (2003 –2007, 2008 –2013 and 2014 –2016) show these contrasting movements: from supporting ethanol to supporting fossil fuel.
