From embarrassing objects to subjects of rights: The Argentine LGBT movement and the Equal Marriage and Gender Identity laws

This article examines the Argentine LGBT movement within the framework of two longer-term processes. First, an enlargement of rights that is typical of post-transitional situations, with the peculiarity that a quarter of a century after its transition to democracyArgentina experienced a strong resurgence of the human rights discourse asjudicial procedures were reopened to deal with human rights violations committed under the 1976-1983 dictatorship.
